David Grief moves to new role at Essex Court Chambers

25 July, 2018

The members of Essex Court Chambers are pleased to announce that from 1 July 2018 David Grief has moved to a new role as the Director of International Business Development for the members of Essex Court Chambers. As from that date, Joe Ferrigno, who has been joint Senior Clerk with David since 2016, became Essex Court Chambers’ sole Senior Clerk.

In his new role, David will assist in the development of the international practices of all members of Chambers, as well as providing strategic support in targeted practice areas.  David has unrivalled experience in the support and development of barristers’ practices. He was the first barristers’ clerk to identify and respond to the international demand for specialist advocates, and the opportunities which the growth in international arbitration and cross-border legal disputes offered independent practitioners. He was recognised for his considerable achievements by a Chambers & Partners Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.

David Foxton QC, Head of Chambers, said “David has made an unparalleled contribution to Essex Court Chambers and the Commercial Bar. This new role allows him to take the international engagement of the Bar he pioneered to the next level. I am delighted that members of Chambers will continue to benefit from his wisdom and expertise as he heads towards his 50th year as a barristers’ clerk”.

“I cannot wait to get started”, commented David Grief. “I have long believed that the Commercial Bar has a huge amount to offer on the international stage, and I look forward to continuing to promote the ability of all Members to provide world class advocacy and advisory services to overseas clients.”

Joe Ferrigno said: “I have had the privilege of working closely with David for over three decades. Over that period, the members of Essex Court Chambers have built an unrivalled reputation for excellence and the highest levels of service, and I am committed to enhancing this position as the Commercial Bar faces new challenges and new opportunities. I look forward to working with David in his new role”.
