The Overseas Associates of Essex Court Chambers are pre-eminent legal practitioners from other jurisdictions who specialise in commercial or international law, litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution. Depending on their individual specialities and qualifications, the Overseas Associates may accept instructions to act as arbitrators in international commercial arbitrations, or as arbitration counsel (sometimes as co-counsel with members of Essex Court Chambers), or as expert witnesses on matters of foreign law within their expertise.
The Overseas Associates do not exercise rights of audience in the Courts of England & Wales, and do not accept instructions through the clerks to appear as counsel in those Courts. The Overseas Associates are not subject to the Legal Ombudsman Scheme, and only those individual Overseas Associates who are qualified barristers and hold a current practising certificate are regulated by the Bar Standards Board.
Information about a particular Overseas Associate’s expertise, qualifications, registration, regulation and insurance position can be found on their individual CVs and through the clerks.
