Members of Essex Court Chambers admitted as barristers are happy to discuss and negotiate terms of engagement, whether based on one of the standard forms in general use or tailor-made for a specific piece of work.
The Code of Conduct provides that barristers are obliged under the Cab Rank Rule to accept instructions from a professional client which are within the Rule and which are on either (a) the Standard Contractual Terms for the Supply of Legal Services By Barristers To Authorised Persons 2012 (the “Bar Council Terms”) or (b) terms which a barrister or the barrister’s chambers have published as the barrister’s standard terms of work.
For the purposes of the Cab Rank Rule, barristers at Essex Court Chambers will accept instructions on the Bar Council Terms.
