National mooting

The English Speaking Union-Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition has long been established as the most prestigious mooting competition in the UK.

Entry to the competition is open to all universities or higher education colleges involved in the teaching of law in the United Kingdom. Each teams is comprised of two students. Rounds are conducted over the winter and spring, culminating in the semi-finals at Dartmouth House, Mayfair (the headquarters of the ESU) and the Grand Final in the Royal Courts of Justice.

The winning team is awarded the “Silver Mace” trophy and takes away £1,000 for each competitor and a further £1,000 for their educational establishment. Runners-up are awarded £750 for each competitor and a further £750 for their educational establishment. All four finalists are also offered mini-pupillages at Essex Court Chambers.
