Sir Franklin Berman QC awarded Honorary Doctorate by University of Cape Town

Sir Franklin (Frank) Berman QC has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Cape Town in recognition of his life-long contribution to the growth and development of international law and international dispute resolution.

Sir Frank, whose initial university studies were in Cape Town, joined HM Diplomatic Service in 1965 and was the Legal Adviser to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office from 1991-99. For the past 22 years he has been in practice in Essex Court Chambers specializing in international arbitration and advisory work in international law. He has sat twice as Judge ad hoc on the International Court of Justice, and is a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration. He chaired throughout its work the Claims Committee of the Austrian General Settlement Fund for the Compensation of Victims of Nazi Persecution.
