Richard Millett QC appointed joint-head of Essex Court Chambers

Members of Essex Court Chambers are delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Millett QC as joint-head of chambers with effect from today, Monday 25 April 2022. Richard replaces Huw Davies QC who has completed a planned half-term (two years) as joint-head with Joe Smouha QC.

Richard was called to the bar in 1985 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2003. He has a broad commercial practice covering a variety of different specialist areas, with an emphasis on advocacy in court and in arbitration and other tribunals. He sits regularly as an arbitrator on international arbitrations, as a Deputy High Court Judge and is appointed to the panel of Senior Decision Makers by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission. Since 2017 he has been appointed as Lead Counsel to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.

On his new appointment, Richard said, “I am delighted to be coming home to the Chambers community after almost 5 years of public advocacy. I am looking forward to helping to lead Chambers to continue to grow its reputation, at all levels, at the forefront of client service and the development of commercial and international law.”
