Members of Essex Court Chambers are deeply saddened to announce that Professor Alan Boyle passed away peacefully today.
Alan became Professor of Public International at the University of Edinburgh in 1995 and joined Essex Court Chambers in 2005. He was widely recognised as one of the leading figures in international environmental law and the law of the sea, co-authoring the seminal work “International Law and the Environment” (now in its fourth edition). He was instructed in many of the most significant international environmental law cases of the past decades, including the Pulp Mills and Whaling cases before the ICJ.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Caroline and friends and colleagues in Chambers.
