Naomi Hart featured in The Lawyer’s Hot 100

23 January, 2023

Naomi Hart has featured in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 for 2023. Members of the The Lawyer’s Hot 100 are chosen for the ‘excellence’ and ‘relevance’ of their work in the legal industry.

Naomi has a diverse practice in international, commercial and public law. It was primarily her growing expertise in international and human rights law, especially before international courts and tribunals, which was singled out in the Hot 100 list.

The Lawyer commented:

“Essex Court Chambers junior Naomi Hart’s public international law and human rights practice surged last year. She worked on three different cases before the International Court of Justice, which included a high-profile case between Ukraine and Russia concerning Russia’s invasion. Many third states were intervening in this case on the basis that they are parties to the Genocide Convention; Hart was counsel for the UK which was the intervener.

Her work last year didn’t stop there as she appeared before the European Court of Human Rights (Grand Chamber) over a conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Hart’s international practice also covered maritime boundary delimitation after she appeared before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. The case was between the Maldives and Mauritius which, despite having a good relationship with each other, needed a way of determining the maritime boundary between them.

It’s an impressive case list for a barrister who was called to the Bar just six years ago. This year, Hart will be further expanding her international law and human rights practice as she builds up expertise in climate change.”
