Naomi Hart has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales (BHRC) for 2024 and 2025. The BHRC is “the independent, international human rights arm of the Bar of England and Wales, working to protect the rights of advocates, judges, and human rights defenders around the world.”
Naomi has a diverse practice in international, commercial, public and human rights law. Her experience extends to domestic, United Nations and regional (European, African and Inter-American) human rights systems. Her cases have covered (among others) the rights to life, to a fair trial, to freedom from torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, to freedom of peaceful assembly, to freedom of expression, to privacy and home life, and to freedom of movement, as well as the rights of refugees, internally displaced persons and asylum seekers. In 2021, Naomi co-authored an expert opinion on the human right to protest, submitted on behalf of the BHRC and Article 19 to an Istanbul criminal court in relation to the prosecution of members of a peaceful protest movement (see here).
