Following a targeted recruitment campaign as a result of four members of Chambers recent elevation to Queen’s Counsel, and the appointment of two additional members as Justices of the High Court last year, Essex Court Chambers have welcomed Louise Hutton and David Walsh as new tenants.

Louise Hutton is a leading junior in the fields of Chancery: Commercial and Civil Fraud and is also recognised for her practice in Banking and Finance and Private Client: Trusts and Probate. She is described as “an acclaimed junior who is frequently instructed in heavyweight commercial litigation. Her workload includes notable matters touching upon a wide range of chancery areas, including insolvency, shareholder disputes, breach of trust and reflective loss”, and “Typically instructed in chancery litigation that involves sophisticated banking and company issues. She receives particular plaudits for her expertise in civil fraud matters.”

David Walsh is a highly regarded commercial junior with a strong reputation in shipping and marine insurance. He is described as “incredibly bright and very easy to get on with”, “an ‘unflappable’ dry shipping junior who is particularly noted for his skilful advocacy” and “a ‘go-to’ junior for marine insurance”. David said: “I am incredibly excited to be starting this new chapter of my career at Essex Court Chambers. It is a huge honour to join such an outstanding commercial set. Essex Court Chambers’ pedigree and strength in insurance, shipping, commodities and energy litigation and arbitration make it the perfect place to develop my practice. I shall always be thankful for the opportunities and support given to me by Quadrant Chambers and wish them all the very best for the future.”

David Foxton QC, Head of Essex Court Chambers, said: “I am delighted that Louise and David have accepted invitations to join Essex Court Chambers. I know from our experience of working together that Louise is an outstanding barrister who will add to our existing strength in chancery/commercial and banking and finance work. David has a distinguished reputation in the energy, insurance and shipping fields, consolidating our presence in these areas, where we have enjoyed a number of recent silk appointments. These new tenants  enhance the strength and depth offered by members of Chambers across the full spectrum of commercial litigation.”
