The University of Liverpool is the winning team in this year’s ESU – Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition. Simon Douglas and David Birrell beat off last year’s winners Jodie Mittell and Eleanor Fargin representing Southampton in the exciting evening final which was held at the Royal Courts of Justice. The competition, now in its thirty-first year, was judged by The Rt Hon Sir Anthony Evans, Professor Christopher Greenwood CMG QC and Michael Collins QC
Winners Simon Douglas said: “We were very privileged to make submissions in the Lord Chief Justice’s Chamber and in front of such an eminent bench. Essex Court Chamber and the ESU have been an invaluable help in developing our skills as advocates.” and David Birrell added: “Both Simon and I have a passion for advocacy, in general, and mooting, in particular. Winning such a prestigious competition will hopefully bode well for our future careers.”
