Gourab Banerji has been presented the ‘Senior Counsel of the Year’ award at the 11th Annual Legal Era Indian Legal Awards 2022.
The awards jury was constituted of a retired Chief Justice of India, former Judges of the Indian Supreme Court, and distinguished Senior Advocates. The award was presented at the Hotel Shangri-La on Saturday 7 May by jury members and a Supreme Court Judge.
According to Legal Era, Gourab is known as a “lawyer’s lawyer” with “his meticulous attention to detail”. As well as his specialty in domestic and international arbitration, he has a wide and varied practice in civil and constitutional law. After graduating from Cambridge with first class honours in 1989, Gourab was called to the Bar in 1990. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2003. He joined Essex Court Chambers in 2014, soon after stepping down from his position as Additional Solicitor General of India in the Supreme Court.
