FA Premier League resists appeal by publicans regarding costs of prosecutions for unlawful TV broadcasts

7 December, 2016

Richard Millett QC and Edward Brown successfully acted in the Court of Appeal for the Football Association Premier League in non-party costs applications concerning unlawful television broadcasts. The Court of Appeal has determined that there is no power to order payment of the costs of prosecutions for the offence of fraudulently receiving satellite TV programmes, namely football matches from non-UK broadcasters. The case overturns previous authority and establishes an important point of principle in this field.

Richard and Ed were instructed by Ruth Hoy at DLA Piper UK.
