This half-day conference will provide a unique opportunity to hear from a range of experts working in the field of climate change law. Sessions will include discussions about climate change in commercial disputes, greenwashing, implications for directors’ duties, insurance coverage, how climate change is currently being addressed in international courts and legal issues relating to aviation.

This session will set the framework for the sessions that follow and report on the recently published Law Society’s Guidance ‘The impact of climate change on solicitors’.

2:30pm: Session 1: Climate change in commercial disputes: implications for directors’ duties, insurance coverage and greenwashing claims
In this session the speakers will explore how climate change is impacting directing duties and insurance coverage, as well as the prospects for product and corporate related greenwashing claims.

4:00pm: Session 2: Using International law in climate change cases
The session will address climate change and investment arbitration; climate litigation before international courts and tribunals in both human rights claims and inter-State proceedings, and international law in climate change cases before domestic courts.

5:00pm: Session 3: The Aviation Impact Accelerator, and scientific and legal issues of carbon measurement and attribution
This last session will outline the activities of the AIA group (Aviation Impact Accelerator), explain why the approach of this group can provide important advice for ESG litigation and explore issues relating to the presentation of scientific evidence in climate change litigation.
