Essex Court Chambers signs up for the Pegasus Access Scheme

1 May, 2012

Essex Court Chambers is delighted to announce its participation in the Pegasus Access Scheme (PAS).

PAS is an innovative mini-pupillage programme, which is designed to encourage and support students from diverse backgrounds who are considering a career at the bar, and to promote diversity and social mobility in the profession. The Scheme, which is administered by the Inner Temple for the Bar Of England & Wales, caters specifically for students who have taken part in (or would have been eligible for) the Pathways To Law Programme, the Social Mobility Foundation’s Aspiring Professions Programme, the Multicultural Scholars Programme, or the Inner Temple School’s Project, and organises mini-pupillage placements for high-achieving students at participating Partner Chambers.

Essex Court Chambers fully supports PAS’s aim of ensuring that all students with the capability and determination to pursue a career at the bar have the opportunity to undertake mini-pupillage, regardless of their backgrounds or networks, and is committed to equality of opportunity, based strictly on merit and without discrimination. Chambers will continue to offer mini-pupillages (allocated by reference to objective criteria) directly, through its own scheme, but sees participation in PAS as a further opportunity to broaden and strengthen the recruitment base for the modern bar.
