ECC-SAL International Mooting Competition 2015 – Winners Announced

Mr Raeza Ibrahim and Miss Sadhana Rai from Singapore law firm Drew & Napier LLC have won the prestigious Essex Court Chambers – SAL International Mooting Competition. This marks the second occasion on which a team from Drew & Napier have won the competition.

This year’s competition included 27 impressive teams from countries including Australia, Brunei, Hong Kong, and Malaysia, with the competition intended to give young lawyers (those who have been qualified for practice for under three years) the opportunity to showcase and hone their advocacy skills.

In the final round held at the Supreme Court of Singapore on 6 January 2015, the team from Drew & Napier competed against a mixed team from Baker & McKenzie, Wong & Leow and Michael Hwang Chambers. The teams presented arguments about the implication of terms in contracts and the availability of an account of profits as a remedy for breach of confidence before a distinguished judging panel comprising of Justice Vinodh Coomaraswamy, Mr. Gourab Banerji SA and Mr. Roderick Cordara QC.

The prize for Best Speaker in the competition went to Jules Moxon of Allens in Australia, whilst the prize for the best written submissions was awarded to a team of Justices’ Law Clerks, Ramasamy s/o Nachiappan and Devathas Satianathan.
