Professional practice
Mark Templeman appears regularly as an advocate in international arbitration, the Commercial Court and the Court of Appeal, and has also appeared in the Privy Council. His areas of practice include insurance and reinsurance (marine and non-marine), shipping, arbitration, banking, commercial fraud, commodities, sale of goods and letter of credit disputes. He is a CEDR accredited mediator. Although practising primarily in London, he has also appeared in court or in international arbitrations in New York, Singapore, Bermuda, Rotterdam and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
He is an editor of the 17th (2008) and 18th (2013) editions of Arnould: Law of Marine Insurance and Average.

Numerous arbitrations of all types as counsel, including insurance and reinsurance, shipping, sale of goods, and commodities; both ad hoc, and pursuant to the rules of various bodies including LCIA, ICC, ARIAS, LME and AAA. Regularly appointed as arbitrator in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations (insurance and reinsurance, including Bermuda Form, shipping, shipbuilding and other disputes).

Experience of numerous LoC/finance disputes, particularly between issuing, confirming, negotiating and accepting banks, involving various editions of the UCP.

Experience of rig building and conversion disputes, and associated finance and security transactions.

Experience of disputes involving most classes of marine and non-marine insurance and reinsurance including aviation, CAR/EAR, cargo, hull (including TLO), liability (including P&I), political risk, professional indemnity, property/casualty, personal accident/WCC, KR, satellite, rig and XL (including LMX and PA spiral). Acted in a number of disputes on the Bermuda Form. Experience of finite risk/ART arrangements.
- International trade, transport & commodities
Experience of sale/supply disputes involving numerous commodities including oil and gas, metals (physical and warranties), grains and sugar.
- Offshore litigation
Experience of rig building and conversion disputes, and associated finance and security transactions.
- Shipping & admiralty
Experience of charterparty and bill of lading disputes, ship sale and purchase, shipbuilding and repair, ship finance, limitation of liability, and average.
