Essex Court Chambers is delighted to announce that Tim Eicke KC has been appointed Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) in the King’s New Years Honours List 2026 in recognition of his services to the protection of Human Rights in Europe.
The honour reflects Tim’s distinguished career and his exceptional contributions to the advancement and protection of human rights. He returned to Essex Court Chambers in full-time practice as counsel and arbitrator in September 2025, following nine years’ service as the judge in respect of the U.K at the European Court of Human Rights. As the official extended citation notes, he has profoundly influenced the development of human rights law across Europe and given exceptional service, and benefited the UK’s reputation, through the consistent quality of his legal opinions. He has also been a pre-eminent figure in the development of the law in the digital space, as well as having leading knowledge and expertise of the principles of public international and human rights law.
