New Co-Heads for Essex Court Chambers – Richard Jacobs QC and Graham Dunning QC take over from Gordon Pollock QC

24 June, 2013

After almost 21 years, Gordon Pollock QC has stepped down as Head of Essex Court Chambers, handing over to the new Co-Heads – Richard Jacobs QC and Graham Dunning QC.

Under Gordon Pollock’s leadership, the chambers has grown substantially and with 82 members is one of the largest and most successful commercial law sets in the country. In 1994, Essex Court Chambers became the first major commercial set to leave the Temple, when Gordon Pollock led and guided chambers’ move to 24-26 Lincoln’s Inn Fields. During his period as Head, the core focus of members has been chambers’ traditional strengths: advocacy and advice in commercial litigation and international arbitration. At the same time, the expertise of members has developed or extended in areas such as public international law, employment law, VAT, European law and public law.

Richard Jacobs comments “Essex Court Chambers has been tremendously served by Gordon Pollock. Many members of chambers have been fortunate to work on cases with Gordon, who is one of the most outstanding commercial barristers of his generation, and whose skills as an advocate and in litigation have been supreme. All members have benefited from his leadership of chambers over so many years.”

Graham Dunning comments “Richard Jacobs and I look forward to providing guidance and leadership, meeting the challenges ahead and building upon the undoubted success Gordon Pollock has helped members of chambers to achieve over the past two decades.”

Richard Jacobs and Graham Dunning took over as Co-Heads of Chambers on the 21 June 2013. Gordon Pollock remains in full time practice at Essex Court Chambers.
