James Willan Appointed to Attorney General’s ‘A’ Panel

23 June, 2017

The Members of Essex Court Chambers are pleased to announce that James Willan has been appointed directly to the Attorney General’s ‘A’ Panel of Counsel to the Crown.

James Willan is widely recognised as one of the leading juniors at the Commercial Bar. He is the only junior to hold top-tier (Band 1) rankings from Chambers & Partners for both Commercial Dispute Resolution and International Arbitration. Chambers & Partners refers to his “rapid rise up the rankings with respect to a wide range of practice areas based, in part, on his reputation as an extremely capable and intelligent junior with the ability to handle the most complex and intricate of issues.  Besides banking disputes, he is accomplished in representing clients in civil fraud, offshore and arbitration proceedings”.

The Attorney General maintains four advisory panels of junior counsel to undertake civil and EU work for all government departments. There are three London panels (an A panel for senior juniors, a B panel for middle juniors, a C panel for junior juniors) and a regional panel.
