Richard Hoyle appointed to SFO ‘A’ Panel (Proceeds Of Crime)

Richard Hoyle has been appointed directly to the Serious Fraud Office’s ‘A’ Panel of Counsel (Proceeds of Crime and International Assistance). The appointment is for a four-year period which commenced on 31 December 2024. The panel is sub-divided by seniority (KC 5yrs+, KC under 5yrs, and A, B and C panels for juniors), with appointments being made through an open competition which the SFO runs every four years.

Alongside his general commercial practice, Richard Hoyle has been instructed by the State, defendants and third parties in some high profile proceeds of crime cases, including the leading case on the interaction between POCA restraint orders and legal expenses for parallel civil litigation: R v Luckhurst (Supreme Court), the £75m restraint order against Baroness Mone and Douglas Barrowman in relation to PPE Medpro (Southwark Crown Court), the Re Smith litigation concerning the establishment and interaction of various types of equitable interests with one of the largest confiscation orders obtained by the SFO (High Court, Commercial Court) and substantial cross-border civil recovery proceedings under Part 5 POCA: DPP v Krasniqi (High Court, KDB).
