David Scorey – Named “Rising Star” in Indirect Tax Awards 2010

27 October, 2010

David Scorey of Essex Court Chambers took the prize for Rising star in indirect tax at The Tax Journal Indirect Tax Awards 2010, which took place on 14th October 2010 at the Glaziers Hall in London.

The Award was one of four presented at this annual event, now in its third year. The others were: Best indirect tax team – winner: Jane Young, RBS; Outstanding contribution to indirect tax – winner: Peter Coombs, University of Kent and Best in-house indirect tax expert – winner: AstraZeneca’s Global Indirect Tax Team

The panel of judges is chaired by Tax Journal editor Paul Stainforth. It comprises some of the most respected figures in the tax industry, invited to sit on the panel to offer their unrivalled experience and know-how.

And this is what the Judges said about David:

  • Described as ‘outstanding’ and ‘intellectually without equal’, David is to be praised not only for his technical knowledge, but also for his strong commercial awareness
  • Often handling work where it would not have been unusual to appoint a QC – such as in the House of Lords case of Baxi – David has consistently delivered top notch advice
  • The judges needed little persuading that David is destined for the very highest level at the Bar.
